Kapas Island, or Cotton Island if literally translated, is renowned for its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water. It is such a perfect holiday to chill out with family and loved ones while enjoying the walk under shady coconut tree. The island is also a spot for water activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, boating and fishing.
Here we provide some of the activities you can do for 3 days and 2 nights in Kapas Island.
How to Get There
If you were to go to Kapas Island by car, you can park your car in Marang Jetty with only RM7 per night. From that jetty, you can take a boat ride of RM30 (return trip) or RM20 per person which will take around 30 minutes journey to the island. It is recommended to make a move from the jetty in the morning, so that you will have more time appreciating the beauty of the island.
One of the main tourist attractions in Kapas Island is snorkeling. The reefs are so close to the shore that you don’t have to go further in the sea to experience the best well-preserved soft and hard corals. This in turn harbours a variety of colourful marine life including various reef fish, stingrays, nudibranchs crustaceans, blacktip reef sharks, nurse sharks and huge bulbous bumphead parrotfish.
- Explore the Beaches
Kapas Island has lots of unique and breathtaking beaches such as Turtle beach, Pier beach and Camping beach which are arguably the best beaches on the island. Take a walk from one end of a beach to another and enjoy the amazing view of relaxing nature. It is not surprising if you see the island has no massive resorts as there are ever many people on the beaches. There are five stretches of sand connecting by small walkways on the island and kept clean all the time.
- Beach Volleyball
There are a few different volleyball nets you can find on Kapas Island. If you travel with friends or family, this is the perfect activity for relationship bonding between family and friends. Just indulge your evening by the beach along with friends, family and captivating sunsets.
- Hiking in Bukit Singa (Lion Hill)
If you are adventurous, Bukit Singa is definitely the place you have to go. Known as Lion Hill as translated to English, Bukit Singa is called such name because the hill itself mirrors a lion in sitting position. Hiking Bukit Singa does not need a tour guide as the track is easy to find. It is only 25 minutes climb before you reach the peak of Bukit Singa. The best time to go is in the morning so you will get to experience the strong breeze from the South China Sea and the mesmerizing sunrise that leaves you breathless.
Kapas Island has great shallow reefs with astounding corals and great marine life. It is also home for big fish and many turtles. The key attraction for diving at Kapas Island is the World War II shipwreck located 5 nautical miles offshore. Besides that, the shallow water of the island makes it an ideal spot to train ground divers too.
Don’t miss the opportunity to kayak while you are there! You can rent kayaks from your accommodation to explore the island and islands nearby. Catch a glimpse of different type of colourful underwater creature.
- Souvenir Shopping
Before head back to your routine life, don’t forget to buy some craft and souvenir along the beach. There are souvenir and gift shops at Kapas Island and around the jetty. Items like t-shirts, jeans, short pants, sandals, key chain and dried food are sold in reasonable price.
