Krabi is one of the attraction jewels in Thailand. Famously known for its stunning island and mangrove forest, Krabi is a perfect holiday destination even just for few days. Going to Krabi can be either by flight (saves time but a little bit pricy if no promotion from budget airlines) or you can opt for bus. You can take direct buses to Krabi from the Southern Bus Terminal of Bangkok but it may take up to 10 hours to reach Krabi. The choice is yours.
We suggest you to make early booking for accommodation from Booking.com, Agoda, Hotels.com, Trip.com, to name a few. In Krabi, you can stay over in Ao Nang as it is a town area with shops and convenient stores available everywhere. If you forget to bring your toothbrush, slippers or sunglasses, you can get them anywhere in Ao Nang. There are range of accommodations here from family-friendly, villa, luxury, hostel and budget hotel available for various types of travellers. For those who travel with friends or in small groups, budget hotel will be ideal. You can get best deals for such hotels for as low as RM50 to RM170 per night, depending on your preferences and budget. Aonang Miti Resort, Pranang Flora House, Fahsai Bay Villa or The Dream Garden are the examples of affordable hotel that you might want to check on when travel with friends.
Day 1: Arrive in Krabi
Assuming you go to Krabi by flight, you can either take a taxi, van or bus from Krabi Airport to Ao Nang area. For taxi and van, going to Ao Nang will cost you about 600 Baht to 1100 Baht per trip (RM77 – RM143) while bus will be around 150 Baht per person (RM20). It is a 30 minutes journey from the Krabi Airport to Ao Nang.
While waiting to check-in in the hotel you have booked (in case you arrive Ao Nang too early), we suggest you to keep your luggage in the hotel and hire a tuk tuk to nearby area for breakfast. Don’t worry, there are plenty of Halal breakfast or lunch options along the Ao Nang street.
Note that along the Ao Nang street, you will see many day trip packages by agents there. Since you travel in group of friends, make sure to get consensus from all members on activities you are about to experience. That is why, choosing the right person to travel with is as important as choosing a spouse. You can go to the worst place on the planet but with good company, it will be the best trip ever!
So here are our itinerary suggestions for 3 days 2 nights escape to Krabi. Feel free to try out other places other than these. Krabi has so much to offer! Don’t stay rigid.
- Tiger Cave Temple
As for a start, you can go to Tiger Cave Temple which is approximately 5 km from Krabi town. Tiger Cave Temple is both religious and archaeological sites. Surrounded by mountains, caves, jungles, and forests, the temple is home and meditation center for Buddhist monks and nuns. You need to hike 1237 steps staircase to the temple to see the 278 meters tall golden Buddha statue at the summit. You should allow up to one hour to make the climb, enjoying the rest stops and vantage points on the way up. The temple opens daily from 7.30 am to dusk. If you plan to watch sunset at the summit of the temple, take note that the 1237 steps staircase becomes rather dark after sunset. You might want to consider bringing a torchlight with you.
- Krabi Town Night Market
At night, you may head on to Krabi Town Night Market with more than 50 stalls selling keychains, t-shirts, handicrafts, snacks, street food and many more. It opens every Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5pm to 10pm. This night market is so popular that many hotels provide a shuttle service. You only need to ask your hotel’s front desk.
Day 2: Island Trip
- Phi Phi Island
Known as the jewel of Andaman Sea, Phi Phi Island is the ultimate destination for travellers in Thailand. Speed boat is the easiest way to go with only 45 minutes from Krabi, but there are also dive boats and ferries as other options. This island is a place for you to enjoy swimming (of course), snorkeling and diving while appreciating amazing coral reefs. With 1250 Baht (RM162) Phi Phi tour package, it includes hotel transfers (from Ao Nang, Krabi town, Klong Muang and Tubkaek), mask & snorkel, lifejacket, restaurant lunch with soft drink, drinking water, English speaking guide, accident insurance and fresh fruits. Upon arriving at this island, you will be taken to these places; Bamboo Island, Viking Cave, Lohsamah Bay, Pileh Bay, Maya Bay, Monkey Beach, Phi Phi Don and Hin Klang. We encourage you to allocate whole day for tour to Phi Phi Island as it may take up from 8.30am to 5pm.
- Ao Nang Night Market
Ao Nang Night Market is one of the most popular local markets in Krabi. Located nearby 7 Eleven convenient store, this is a food paradise, selling everything from barbecued meat and delectable desserts to exotic freshly cut Thai fruits, coconut drinks, fruit shakes and Thai iced teas. After the food stalls area, you will find tons of things to shop for, right from cheap shoes and second-hand t-shirts to accessories like belts, bags and shoes, souvenirs, jewelries and electronic gadgets.
Day 3: Island hopping
- Island hopping from Hong Island
We encourage you to book a flight ticket scheduled at late evening or dusk time so that you can still spend half of your last day touring Krabi. If you can’t get enough of islands on yesterday’s trip, then you should continue island hopping again in Krabi. Seems like no end to its stunning islands, you can take a tour to 4 islands from Hong Island. Right after breakfast, the tour operator will be at your hotel for pick up to the departure point. In this Hong Island package which will cost you around 895 Baht (RM116), you will visit Hong Island Lagoon, Pakbia Island, Lading Island and Hong Island. In any of these islands, you can expect to see many beautiful marine creatures in crystal clear waters and unspoiled beaches, perfect for snorkeling, scuba diving and sunbath. The trip is expected to end around late afternoon.
Late in the evening, you are ready to leave Krabi and head on to your real life back in your hometown.
- Bring along mosquito repellent. You need it in case of choosing package with mangrove tour.
- Stay longer. Believe it when we say, 3 days 2 nights stay are not enough to cover even 50 percent of attractions in Krabi.
- If you care a lot from being tanned, then you should care for the marine life too. Wear reef safe sunscreen to protect the sea environment.
